Question One) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Music Video

Digipak

Magazine

What is it?

A magazine article is usually used to promote a digipak / an album. It should include a name, brand Identity, album plus have a clear colour scheme. I have taken a lot of inspiration from other examples from and indie rock genre, like arctic monkeys single magazine advert ‘The Jeweller’s Hand’ which has heavily influenced the design of our magazine advert for our EP.

Name of artist

Our band name is shown at the top of the magazine advert featuring in our logo, this is important as it helps put a name to the advert and every magazine advert needs to have one so people can find put more about the band. I think the logo is a bit small compared to the rest of the parts in the magazine advert, but it is still clearly visible.

Brand identity

Our brand identity would be our typeface, we’ve used it in our ‘Pieces’ and logo text, which is used in all of the other products. I think the puzzle pieces are another key piece of brand identity if it was used in the same style as in our EP.

Things we haven’t included

I haven't put in a few things which a magazine advert could include, for example, a release date for the EP, I was gonna put something ‘Out Now’ as I thought it didn’t really suit what it was meant for, as it felt like it was too commercial. I didn’t add a review as I wanted it to seem authentic and realistic out to be used in real life. I could have added some tour dates or gigs, but I thought it would have looked a bit cluttered

Album

The album name has been included, it was part of the actual EP, but I removed it from the EP and had it underneath and had it a bit bigger to make it stand out more, this will draw the attention to the name of the EP and encourage people to buy it.

Colour

I wanted to keep a certain rock look about it by having it in all in black and white, which is good because you can get something looking quite strong and simplistic at the same time using black and white, which is what I wanted to achieve. The only thing in colour is ‘The Meeks’ logo, which helps bring the attention the logo a bit more than it would have, plus it looks a little interesting.
